What is it residence card

Residence permit / Residence card — it is a document that identifies the foreigner, grants them the right to stay in Poland and allows them to legally stay in the country for more than 90 days.

What types of residence card are there?

  • Temporary residence permit (Karta Pobytu Czasowego)— issued for up to 3 years to individuals coming for work, studies, family reunification, or to open a business.

  • Permanent residence card (Karta Stałego Pobytu)— issued indefinitely to foreigners with Polish roots, who have been living in Poland for an extended period.

  • EU long-term resident card(EU Long-Term Resident Card)— allows living and working not only in Poland but also in other EU countries under certain conditions.

Process of obtaining a permanent residence card

  • Submit the application to the voivodeship office at the place of residence.

  • Pay the state fee.

  • Submit the required documents.

  • Wait for a decision, which can take anywhere from a few months to a year.

  • Receive the finished document.

What are needed documents for applying for a residence card?

  • completed application form (wniosek);
  • foreign passport;
  • employment contract;
  • rental agreement;
  • PESEL/NIP number (if available);
  • receipt of payment for the stamp duty;
  • 4 photos 3.5x4.5 cm.
